GEORGETOWN – Both the East Texas A&M University men's and women's cross country teams finished third at the Southwestern Showdown on Saturday morning at the SU Cross Country Course, with multiple Lions finishing in the top 10 on both sides.
For the Lion women,
Anete Randma (Tallinn, Estonia) paced the team with a second-place finish in the six-kilometer race with a time of 22:34.69. Kaat de Staercke (Zemst, Belgium) clocked in at 23:50.21 for eighth,
Edith Martinez (Sulphur Springs) timed 23:58.98 for 10
th,
Mareva Heck (Marseille, France) came in 21
st with a time of 24:40.31, while
Hannah Stuart (Canyon) clocked in at 25:36.48 for 35
th.
Riley Roberts (Bullard) rounded out the Lions with a time of 25:41.54 for 39
th.
Midwestern State had three of the top five runners and won the meet with 37 points, while Rice scored 43 for second and the Lions totaled 72 for third.
On the men's side,
Samuel Pepe (Hillsboro) took third with a time of 26:53.38 for third in the eight-kilometer race, followed by
Grayson Klosowski (Frisco – Lebanon Trail) in 12
th with a time of 27:39.97,
Andrew Crosby (McKinney – Boyd) came in 14
th with a time of 27:41.57.
Ricky Santos (Keene) clocked in at 28:16.43 for 23
rd, while
Christian James (Rosharon – Manvel) had a time of 28:40.19 for 33
rd.
In the team scores, Blinn College took the team title with 18 points, followed by DBU in second with 72 points and the Lions scored 75.
