COMMERCE – East Texas A&M University track and field Sandy Sakyi and Jammel Ward are this week's Dixie Turman State Farm Agency Student-Athletes of the Week. 

Sakyi (Bremen, Germany) finished fifth at the Arkansas Twilight in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.47 seconds. Her personal-best time is a new school record, breaking a nine-year old school record, while also being second in the conference and 41st in the NCAA West Region. 

Ward (Royse City) jumped 25-3.25 (7.70m) for the top mark in the long jump at Arkansas on Friday. His jump is also the second-best mark by any long jumper in the conference this season, with Ward's personal-best jump of 25-5.25 (7.75m) earlier this season being the only better jump in the conference. He continues to rank 14th in the West Region as well. 

The Lion Track and Field teams begin the outdoor postseason portion of their schedule at the Southland Conference Championships Thursday-Saturday in Nacogdoches.
