FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The East Texas A&M University track and field team has qualified 13 entries into next week's NCAA West First Rounds at John McDonnell Field.
The Lions are eligible for NCAA postseason meets for the first team in the Division I era this year and have nine qualifiers on the men's side, while four on the women's side. The 13 entries into the first rounds are fourth-most among all Southland programs.
Twelve individuals and one relay squad have qualified for the first rounds. The top 48 entries from each region in each event qualify for the first rounds, with the top 12 performers from the each of the first rounds advancing to the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon, on June 10-13.
For the Lion men,
Cheyne West (Rochester, England) is qualified in the 110 meter hurdles, holding a seed time of 13.83 seconds, which is 38
th in the region. He also qualified in the 400 meter hurdles, being seeded 16
th with a time of 50.32 seconds.
Both
Enoch Fosuhene (Accra, Ghana) and
Oguz Uyar (Cannakale, Turkey) have qualified for both the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. Fosuhene is the eighth seed in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.06 seconds and 18
th seed in the 200 meter dash with a time of 20.39 seconds. Uyar's seed time of 10.16 seconds in the 100 meter dash is 24
th and is seeded 13
th with a time of 20.33 seconds in the 200 meter dash.
The 4x100 meter relay team has also qualified for the first rounds with a seed time of 39.53, which is 18
th in the region.
In the field events,
Jammel Ward (Royse City) qualified for the long jump with a seed mark of 25-5.25 (7.75m), which is 21
st and
Calen Jones (Duncanville) will compete in the high jump with a seed mark of 7-0.25 (2.14m), which is 31
st in the region.
On the women's side,
Sandy Sakyi (Bremen, Germany) and
Amara Idinna (Viry-Châtillon, France) qualified for the 100 meter hurdles. Sakyi is seeded 25
th with a time of 13.30 seconds and Idinna is 40
th with a time of 13.42 seconds.
After having already qualified for the indoor national championships earlier this year,
Jenneil Jacobie (Piat Grand Rivière, Saint Lucia) is into the field for the high jump with a seed mark of 5-9.25 (1.76m) for 44
th and
Romi Griese (Salzkotten, Germany) is seeded 35
th in the discus with a mark of 172-0 (52.44m).
West begins the action on Wednesday in Fayetteville at 6 p.m. in the 110 meter hurdles, followed by Ward, Fosuhene, and Uyar competing later in the day.
The women's action begins next Thursday at 6 p.m. with the 100 meter hurdles.
