The 2013-14 A&M-Commerce athletic season was filled with a handful of incredible moments, achievements and career milestones. Throughout the summer Lion Athletics will take a look back at the top 15 moments of the year, voted on by athletic administrators and local media members.Â
With less than a minute from elimination and facing a five-point deficit, the Lion men's basketball team scored the final six points of the game to escape with a 74-73 win over Eastern New Mexico in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on March 7.
Â
The Lions had trailed the Greyhounds since midway through the first half and found itself down 73-68 with just 50 seconds to play; however,
Tyrie Wooten canned a pair of foul shots to draw with in three.
Â
Senior
Kameron Price then came up with a steal and found
Cameron Blue streaking to the basket for a bucket that cut the lead to 73-72. Just eight seconds later Price stole the ball away again, this time in the backcourt, and worked his way to the foul line with 9.5 seconds to play.
Â
He proceeded to hit both foul shots, giving the Lions a 74-73 lead, their first since the 9:02 mark of the opening half.
Â
The Greyhounds had one final chance and put the ball in the hands of leading scorer Rodney Blackmon, who drove the length of the court but could not get a high-arching layup to go in over the outstretched arm of LSC Defensive Player of the Year
Christian Macauley.
Â
The win sent the Lions to the tournament semifinals and snapped a five-year streak of first-round exits in the LSC Tournament, advancing them to the semifinals for the first time since the 2007-08 season.Â
