The Texas A&M
University-Commerce volleyball team swept a pair of matches against
Oklahoma Panhandle State in straight sets. The Lions won the first
match 25-13, 25-18, 25-20 and the nightcap by a 25-15, 25-14, 25-13
margin.
A&M-Commerce (6-3) began the
night with a season-best .381 hitting percentage, including a
startling .519 in the opening set. The Lions' tandem of
freshman Rachel Robertson and junior Naomi
Mays paced the attack with 11 kills. Senior setter
Perla Faudoa added 38 assists and four service
aces; plus, senior libero Lauren Flynn recorded a
match-high 16 digs in the straight-set win.
Oklahoma Panhandle State (1-6)
struggled in the opening match as they hit .186 in the first match
and .012 in the second. Meredith Powell led OPSU with six kills in
the first match and Hillary Isleifson added six in the nightcap for
the Lady Aggies.
The Lions attack had 19 kills and
just five errors in the opening set win as they posted a 25-15 win.
Mays led the attack with a team-high six kills. In the second set,
Robertson added five more kills after a four-kill effort in the
first set and Faudoa had two service aces en route to the 25-18 win
by the Lions. In the third and final set, freshman Reagan
Hayes had a team-high four kills and Flynn added seven
digs to clinch the match.
In the night cap, A&M-Commerce
continued its tenacious attack with a .373 hitting percentage and
holding OPSU to a dismal .012 hitting percentage. The Lions'
were a balanced attack as seniors Alyssa Oberle
and Amy Addison led the offense with nine kills
apiece. Faudoa added 30 more assists and Flynn recorded 10 digs in
the win.
The Lions won the opening set,
25-15, with Oberle connecting on four kills on all four of her
attempts and junior Terra Ousley had a block solo
and a block assist. In the second set, A&M-Commerce capitalized
on three service aces and six different players recorded a kill in
the 25-14 win. In the decisive third set, Oberle and Addison each
had four kills and Hayes added three kills and two blocks for the
25-13 victory.
Next after opening the season with
nine-straight matches away from home, the Lions will host a pair of
matches on Thursday, Ouachita Baptist at 4 pm and Southern Arkansas
at 7 pm at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
