NORMAN, OKLAHOMA – A&M-Commerce track and field invaded the UCO Invitational at the Mosier Indoor Complex and made a statement in their first meet of the season, accruing multiple first place finishes and five provisional-qualifiers.
Â
The Lions' first feat of the day, and perhaps the most impressive, belonged to
Masoud Moghaddam, a senior transfer out of Iran competing in the weight throw. Moghaddam secured an NCAA provisional qualifier on his very first throw of his Lion career, chucking for an 18.66m toss. That effort also set a new LSC Record in the event. The old record was set almost exactly two years ago by Abilene Christian's Baptiste Kerjean, who threw for 18.45m.
Â
Not to be outdone, freshman
Devontae Steele won the men's triple jump with a 49'0" performance. That's good for the fifth best mark in the country this season to date.
Gage Bowles and DeAntre' Spencer finished 2 and 3.
Â
The Lion men absolutely smashed the competition in the 400m run, as
Dexter Lee,
Ravi Dubose and
Eric Williams went 1-2-3 with times of 49.65, 50.04, and 50.15 respectively.
Â
Another event in which the Lions squashed the competition was the Men's High Jump, where A&M-Commerce again went 1-2-3 with
Jamal Curtis, Jonathon Cole and
James Lundy leading the way. Curtis' 6'8.75" mark was good enough for yet another Lion provisional qualifier.
Â
Returning All-American senior
John David Rollins was victorious in the 60m dash with a time of 6.91, only barely missing a provisional qualifying time.
Â
In the 3000m distance, juniors
Dorian McCradic,
Luis Romero and
Mark Gonzalez finished 1-2-4 with times of 8:49.08, 8:57.27 and 8:58.46 respectively.
Â
Tyler Rambo set the Lions' fifth provisional qualifier in the shot put, pulling off a heave of 16.43 meters.
DJ Richardson and
Reggie Kincade finished 1-2 in the long jump, with distances of 22'3" and 21'3.5".
Â
Returning All-American
Matt Rich gave the Lions their fifth provisional qualifier of the day in the Pole Vault, finishing second overall with a 4.7m leap. Lastly, the Lion men went 1-2 in the 4x400 relays with times of 3:22.23 and 3:22.34.
Â
The young women's team's outing was less glamorous, but successful in its own way. Sophomore
Selasie Koto headlined the team with the outright win in the triple jump, with an 11.09 mark. The 4x400 Relay team found success with a second place finish, with a time of 4:05.32.
Â
Jessica Clay earned a second-place finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.34, while teammate
Jasmine Carter also tallied a second place finish with a 11.94m toss in the shot put. Junior
Ana Baleveicau rounded things out with a third place finish in the 400m run, with a time of 1:01.04.
Â
The Lions will take the next week to retool before going back at it again in next week's MSSU Lion Open, in Joplin, Missouri at the Mercy Track. That meet will span from February 6 through February 7.
