SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – A&M-Commerce track and field got its first look at their decathlon and heptathlon athletes in action for the outdoor season, as five Lions competed in the ASU Spring Break Multi at LeGrand Stadium.
Ginnie Lee led the way for the Lion women with an eighth place finish on the strength of a 4217 point performance. Lee's best individual event was a sixth place finish in the javelin with a throw of 27.99m. However, the freshman was dynamic across the board, finishing among the top-eight in six out of seven events.
Following Lee was fellow freshman Jessica Clay, who achieved a tenth place finish with 3981 points. Clay's greatest individual performance on the day was unquestionably her work in the shot put, in which she finished fourth with a heave of 10.73m. Rounding things out for the Lions was Felicia Boyefio, who logged a 13th place finish with a score of 3598.
For the men, Louis Simon was the sole Lion to finish the decathlon, logging a seventh place finish with 5468 points. His best individual performances were a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles and 1500 meter run, with times of 15.25 and 4:57.78 respectively. Senior James Lundy also competed for A&M-Commerce, but was unable to complete the series of events due to an unforeseen vicissitude, withdrawing midway through the first day.
The Lions will have a quick turnaround, as they will rush back to Commerce to host a dual meet against LSC-rivals Tarleton State. That meet is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, and will kick off at 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium.
