Lions Travel to Play Texas Woman’s in LSC Series

Commerce, TX- The A&M-Commerce softball team travels to Denton this weekend for series against Texas Woman's after snapping West Texas A&M's undefeated record.
 
The Lions are currently ranked fourth in the Lone Star Conference beneath Texas Woman's who is third. The Lions however lead the Pioneers in overall record by three wins.
 
This will be the second time that Head Coach Richie Bruister faces off against the Pioneers. The team he previously coached and led to the NCAA Championship Tournament after claiming the super regional title.
 
Texas Woman's was ranked as high as sixth in the nation in 2013 as both the Lone Star Conference and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association named Bruister Coach of the Year.

During his time in Denton, Bruister oversaw a program that produced 33 All-LSC honors, 12 All-South Central Region selections with five All-Americans.
 
By the numbers the Lions lead in:

The Pioneers come into the series 20-10 and 9-3 in the LSC. They have played Angelo State, Midwestern State and Tarleton going 3-1 in each of the three series. Texas Women's comes out strong in the second half of their series, yet to be defeated in the final two games. The three conference losses the Pioneers have collected have been in the first or second gams.
 
Players to Watch:
Baylea Higgs leads the Lions in hits with 35, and stolen bases with 26.
 
Cherie Jackson, Johnna Sturm and Luci Ponce continue to have hot bats for the Lions, the trio has 20 homers and 100 RBI combined.
 
Tori Brice is 11-6 in the circle for the Pioneers with an era of 2.82. She is the lead pitcher for Texas Woman's after tossing 92 innings in the cirlce.
 
Tealey Farquhar comes in to the series going 47-for-106 with a batting average of .443 and has played all 30 games for the Pioneers.
 
Nicole Nordie leads the Pioneers in RBI (27), homers (3) and doubles (7).
 
Games start on Friday, March 25 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The series will continue on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
