Canyon, Texas- On Monday, May 2 at 9:00 a.m. the Lion Softball team learned that their post-season would continue into the South Central Regional Tournament. Even better news, the Lions came in ranked as the no. 4 seed in the region and were matched up against no. 5 seed Colorado Mesa University.
 
The A&M-Commerce softball is the first team in both Division I and Division II history to earn a berth in the NCAA tournament in only their second season. The Lions are making history game-by-game.
 
The National Fast Pitch Coaches Association released the latest NFCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, The Lions are receiving votes for the second time this season. LSC teams No.1 West Texas and No. 25 Texas Woman's are ranked in the top 25.
 
The Lions will play Colorado Mesa for the first time in school history.
 
Colorado Mesa comes into the regional tournament 38-11, and the Lions come in with a record of 36-17. However, the Lions have had a tough schedule and earlier in the season took the first win from undefeated no.1 West Texas. Out of the eight teams that made the South Central Regional Tournament four are LSC teams, proving the toughness of the LSC.
 
Colorado Mesa comes in with players with a batting averages ranging from.458 to .319. In the circle ERAs for the Mavericks range from 3.44 to 4.20.  The Mavericks have three obvious power hitters and together they have a combined 40 home runs.

Selena Rima (Lions)
Rima has a win-loss record of 14-9; she keeps her opponents runs to a minimum with an ERA of 3.16, she also 121 strikeouts.
 
Luci Ponce (Lions)
Ponce is a power hitter and was recently awarded the Golden Glove award for first base from the LSC. She has a slugging percentage of .653, 57 RBI and an on base percentage of .481.
 
Makayla Kovac (Mavericks)
Kovac has a batting average of .458, the best for her team. She also leads the Mavericks with 65 runs, 18 home runs and 62 RBI. Kovac has a slugging percentage of .948 and an on base percentage of .505.
