RICHARDSON – Texas A&M University-Commerce women's golf student-athlete
Sophie-Charlott Hempel has been selected as the Lone Star Conference Women's Golf Academic Athlete of the Year during the awards banquet on Wednesday night. She and
Sarah Wongsinth are also selected to all-Lone Star Conference teams.
Hempel, a graduate student from Pirmasens, Germany, is majoring in Business Administration and is selected to the All-LSC Academic team for the second straight year. On the course, she earns second team all-conference honors for the third year in a row. She averaged a score of 75.3 per round and her best finish was a runner up finish at the Lion Invitational earlier this season. She was also named LSC Women's Golfer of the Week following that tournament.
Wongsinth, a graduate student from Udon Thani, Thailand, is an all-conference selection for the fourth time in her career. She has been selected to the second team three times and was the conference's Golfer of the Year in 2019. She averaged a score of 76.2 in 21 rounds and won the Ranger Invitational during the fall season. She finished in the top 10 four times.
The Lions begin the LSC Championships on Thursday morning at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose. The Lions finished as the runner up last season.
