DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. – The Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team began its spring season with an eighth-place finish at the Gulf Coast Collegiate Classic this week on the Pine Course at Diamondhead Country Club.
The Lions were just outside the lead after the first round, but finished eighth by shooting a team score of 916 (294-322-300). North Alabama won the tournament by nine strokes with a score of 876. The individual winner was also from North Alabama. Francois Jacobs won the three-round tournament by two strokes with a seven-under par score of 209.
"We came out with a great first round only one shot off the lead," said coach
Brian Dolehide. "We lost a bit of momentum in the second round and we're going to work the rest of this week to continue the progress. Looking forward to competing at HCU's event next week!"
Kittiphong Phaithuncharoensuk (Phuket, Thailand) improved his score by five strokes on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 16
th place with a score of 226 (71-80-75).
Nathan McCulloch (Edinburgh, Scotland) shot 12 strokes better on Tuesday, tying for 22
nd with a score of 229 (73-84-72).
Simon Haas (Lorch, Germany) also tied for 22
nd, shooting 74, 78, and 77, in the three rounds, respectively.
Balint Zavaczki (Nyíregyháza, Hungary) shot a 237 (76-80-81) to finish in a tie for 40
th place and
Chance Mulligan (Dallas – Bishop Dunne) tied for 50
th place with a score of 240 (79-85-76).
