Lions finish ninth at The Big Texan

KERRVILLE – Texas A&M University-Commerce men's golf team closed out The Big Texan with a ninth place finish this week at the Riverhill Country Club.

The Lions posted a team score of 895 (289-292-314) for ninth place out of 13 teams. UTRGV jumped two spots in the standings on the final day to win its own tournament by two strokes over Southeastern. UTRGV recorded a team score of 873 (296-284-293).

"After the first two rounds, we gave ourselves a great opportunity to bring home the trophy, which I am very proud of. We were not able to handle the moment in the third round and the results showed as much," said coach Brian Dolehide.

"I am glad we were able to put ourselves in a position to win. We will learn from this experience, and we will be there again!"

Individually for the Lions, Nathan McCulloch (Edinburgh, Scotland) tied for 21st with a score of 220 (72-71-77). Kittiphong Phaithuncharoensuk (Phuket, Thailand) was tied for 41st place after Monday's first round. He continued to climb in the final two rounds to tie for 24th place with a score of 221 (75-72-74).
