Lion Track & Field releases 2024-25 schedule

COMMERCE – The East Texas A&M University track and field teams have announced their 2024-25 schedule on Monday afternoon.
 
The Lions are slated to compete in nine meets during the indoor season and 12 during the outdoor season, beginning with a small batch competing this weekend.
 
"Providing our student-athletes with the best opportunities to compete at the highest levels is essential to the success of our program. The schedule this year provides our student-athletes with those opportunities," said coach George Pincock.
 
The first meet of the season is this Saturday is at the Crimson & Gold Invitational, hosted by Pittsburg State. Only a small number of distance runners are expected to compete for the Lions.
 
The first full team meet of the season is on January 10 in College Station at the McFerrin-12 Degree Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. The next week, the Lions compete in the Owen Hewett Invitational, hosted by Oklahoma, on January 17.
 
Rounding out the month of January, the Lions split the squad on January 30 and February 1, with one contingent taking part in the Stan Scott Memorial in Lubbock and the other at the Robert Platt Invitational in Houston.
 
The Lions return to College Station for the Charlie Thomas Invitational on February 7-8, followed by the Jarvis Scott Open on February 15 in Lubbock. The final regular season meet during the indoor season comes at the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on February 21.
 
The Southland Conference Indoor Championships are once again held in Birmingham, Alabama, at the Crossplex, slated for March 2-3.
 
The outdoor season begins with the throwers taking part in the Cowboy Relays on March 7-8 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The first full outdoor meet comes at the UTSA Invitational on March 14-15 in San Antonio.
 
The Lions are back in Houston for the Kirk Baptiste Invitational on Thursday, March 20. East Texas A&M once again heads down I-35 for the Texas Relays/Bobcat Invitational double on March 26-29.
 
The Texas Relays in Austin take place on March 26-29, while the Bobcat Invitational is held in San Marcos on March 27-29. In the first meet of April, the Lions take part in the David Noble Relays in San Angelo on April 3-4, followed by the 44 Farms Team Invitational on April 11-12 in College Station.
 
The next three meets for the Lions come in California on April 15-18 at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California, the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, and the Beach Invitational in Long Beach, California.
 
The final regular season meet comes on May 2-3 at the Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Lubbock.
 
For the second year in a row, the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships will be hosted by Rice at the Holloway Field and Ley Track in Houston on May 15-17.
 
Pincock added, "we have very high expectations for this year and this schedule will put us in a position to perform our best at both conference championship meets. We also have a strong group of returners that will be complimented by newcomers, who are more than ready to compete at this level."
