FRISCO – East Texas A&M University men's basketball guard Gianni Hunt has been voted the Southland Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
 
Hunt (Lakewood, Calif.) averaged 14 points and 5.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Lions at the FDU Basketball Classic, winning over FDU and Army. He scored 18 points on 7 for 10 shooting, including four shots from deep, and eight rebounds in the win over the Knights and then scored 10 points and three rebounds against the Black Knights.
 
This is the first weekly honor for the Lions this season and first in three years since Demarcus Demonia on January 9, 2023. It is just the second weekly honor for the Lions since joining the conference.
 
The Lions are riding a three-game winning streak and face No. 5/5 UCONN on Friday at 6:30 p.m. central. East Texas A&M ends the week at home against Central Arkansas on Sunday at 5 p.m.
