COMMERCE – East Texas A&M University track and field welcomes back
Ushan Perera to the roster for the 2024-25 season.
Perera (Mahabage, Sri Lanka) returns to the Lions after spending the previous two seasons at Texas A&M. As a Lion, Perera won four national championships over two seasons, being the only student-athlete to do so across any sport in school history.
Over his Lion career, Perera won the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships in the high jump as well as the 2021 and 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships.
Perera holds the school record of 7-5.25 (2.27m) in the indoor high jump as well as 7-6.5 (2.30m) in the outdoor high jump, which is also the Sri Lankan National Record.
He is a perfect four for four in winning a conference championship in the four conference championships he's competed in and is a four-time first team All-American.
Perera is immediately eligible to compete for the Lions this season and is slated to compete in the Arkansas Qualifier on Friday. He is eligible to compete for the Lions at both the indoor and outdoor Southland Conference Championships this season.
