MONTGOMERY – Led by top 15 finishes from Davis Seybert and Cooper Watt, the East Texas A&M University men's golf team took fourth at the Bentwater Intercollegiate at the Bentwater Country Club in the Lions' first competition of the spring.
 
The Lions were in sixth place after the first round, improving by six strokes in the second round, and an additional five in the final round. East Texas A&M finished ahead of the three other Southland Conference teams in the field as well as Baylor.
 
"I am proud of how we fought this week, said director of golf Brian Dolehide. "Beating our first Power Four conference team feels pretty great! Mentally our guys are extremely strong, and we've got a lot of talent showing this year consistently. Looking forward to getting back to work and heading out to California!"
 
VCU and Sam Houston tied for the top spot in the team standings with a score of 857 each, the Rams won the team title via a playoff. The Lions' score of 865 (294-288-283) was two strokes back of Central Arkansas for third and eight ahead of UIW.
 
The Rams' Tanner Cadieux took the individual medal with a score of 206 (70-71-65). Both Watt (Rockford, Ill.) and Seybert (Trinity Midland) had scores of 215, finishing in a four-way tie for 11^th. Seybert rose 22 spots on the leaderboard on Tuesday.
 
Matt Walters (Ballito, South Africa) had a six-spot rise on Tuesday, totaling a score of 218 (78-69-71) to tie for 22^nd. Janis Erll (Lich, Germany) tied for 42^nd with a score of 224 (71-78-75) and Nicke Kaajavirta (Kajaani, Finland) tied for 52^nd with a score of 226 (71-79-76).

The Lions are back in action on February 23-25 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California.
