NEW BRAUNFELS – A top-15 finish by Marie Baertz highlighted the East Texas A&M University women's golf team's performance at the Texas State Invitational, which was the spring season-opening tournament for the Lions at the Landa Park Municipal Golf Club.
 
The Lions finished ninth in the 15-team tournament, with the Bobcats winning their home tournament. East Texas A&M shot 916 (298-304-314) as a team, which was three strokes back of A&M-Corpus Christi. Texas State's score of 846 was 27 strokes better than Tarleton.
 
"Mental and physically we need to be better at following our game plan throughout the tournament," said director of golf Brian Dolehide. "We played solid for the first 30 holes of the tournament and fell off from there. It's just our first event of the spring so we'll learn quick from this one."
 
Baertz (Luxembourg) tied for 12^th with a score of 221 (71-72-78), followed by Tais Moreno (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) tying for 37^th with a score of 230 (76-74-80).
 
Marie Naeher (Neuenbuerg, Germany) shot a 233 (73-79-81) to tie for 46^th. Linnea Olsson (Beddingestrand, Sweden) and Becky Baberg (Asendorf, Germany) tied for 53^rd to round out the Lions with a score of 236 each.
 
Tarleton's Louise Depadt was the individual medalist by four strokes over Texas State's Briana LeMaire with a score of 205.

The Lions are next in action on February 16-17 at the Islanders Collegiate Invitational, hosted by A&M-Corpus Christi.
