MONTGOMERY – A six-stroke improvement on Monday afternoon has the East Texas A&M University men's golf team in fifth place at the Bentwater Collegiate to begin the spring season at the Bentwater Country Club.
The Lions shot a 295 in the morning, following it up with a score of 284 in the second round. Central Arkansas is three shots ahead of the Lions, while Sam Houston holds a five-stroke lead in its home tournament over VCU.
Individually for the Lions,
Cooper Watt (Rockford, Ill.) is tied for 16
th with a score of 145 (74-71).
Matt Walters (Ballito, South Africa) is tied for 28
th, just two strokes back of Watt with a score of 147 (78-69). Walters' score of 69 was tied for the third lowest in the second round among all 81 golfers.
Davis Seybert (Trinity Midland) shot eight strokes better than in the afternoon and is tied for 33
rd with a score of 148 (78-70).
Janis Erll (Lich, Germany) is tied for 40
th with a score of 149 (71-78), and
Nicke Kaajavirta (Kaajani, Finland) is tied for 48
th with a score of 150 (71-79).
Ohio's Nathaniel Gray Lamont is leading the tournament with a score of 137, one stroke better than Sam Houston's Jack Hymer.
