COLLEGE STATION – Three East Texas A&M University track and field student-athletes took part in combined events to begin the 44 Farms Team Invitational at the E.B. Cushing Stadium on Thursday.
Tina Samson (Benin, Nigeria) and
Evelyn Cortes (Bogotá, Colombia) are through the first day of the heptathlon, while
Joshua Kommer (Balingen, Germany) competed in the decathlon.
Samson is 17
th with 2,999 points after the first four events. She had a time of 14.87 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, cleared 5-1.5 (1-57m) in the high jump, threw 40-8.75 (12.41m) for fifth in the shot put, and timed 26.53 seconds in the 200 meter dash to end the day.
Cortes totaled 2,761 points for 24
th. She had time of 15.84 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles, 4-11.5 (1.51m) in the high jump, 38-5.5 (11.72m) in the shot put, and 26.52 seconds in the 200 meter dash to close things out.
Cincinnati's Juliette Laracuente-Huebner is in the lead by 225 points with a first-day score of 3,617.
Kommer is 18
th with 1,882 points in the decathlon, having recorded a time of 11.60 seconds in the 100 meter dash, throw of 39-9.75 (12.13m) in the shot put, cleared 5-6.5 (1.69m) in the high jump. He did not finish the 400 meter dash and did not have a mark in the long jump.
Atop the decathlon standings is SFA's Samuel Pavan with a point-total of 4,019, being five points ahead of Texas A&M's Blake Harris.
