SAN MARCOS – East Texas A&M University women's golfers
Marie Baertz and
Tais Moreno sit in the top 10 of the Southland Conference Championships entering the final round at the Kissing Tree Golf Club.
Baertz (Luxembourg) had the second-biggest jump of any golfer in the field on Tuesday, rising 11 spots to take eighth place with a total score of 146 (76-70), while Moreno (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) is tied for 10
th with a score of 148 (74-74).
Behind the Lion duo,
Linnea Olsson (Beddingestrand, Sweden) is in tie for 22
nd place with a score of 152 (75-77),
Marie Naeher (Neuenbuerg, Germany) has recorded a score of 159 (80-79) through two rounds to tie for 30
th and
Becky Baberg (Asendorf, Germany) is in 32
nd place with rounds of 81 in each of the first two days.
HCU's Sara Pihlajamaki holds a one-stroke lead atop the player leaderboard entering the final round with a score of 141 over teammate Alyssa Stewart and UTRGV's Miriam Barcalova.
In the team standings, the Huskies have a one-stroke lead over the Vaqueros, while the Lions are in sixth with a score of 605 through two rounds. Lamar is in fifth, six strokes ahead of the Lions, while SFA is in seventh, trailing East Texas A&M by 40 strokes.
The Lions have utilized a substitute for the final round as
Gimena Errecart (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) comes in for Baberg and will tee off at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by the rest of the team in 10-minute intervals.
