SAN ANGELO, TEXAS – A&M-Commerce T&F yielded excellent results from the small handful of students sent to the David Noble Relays Multi-event, as Matt Rich finished first in the decathlon and Ginnie Lee grabbed sixth in the heptathlon.
 
Rich, the only male student-athlete to make the trip for the No. 4 Lions, had a career-outing. The senior scored a personal-best mark of 7107 points in the decathlon, breaking a thirteen-year old A&M-Commerce school-record of 7060 points previously set by Ben Botello in 2002. The mark stands at second overall in Division II, gives the Lions their third automatic qualifier of the year. That guarantees Rich the chance to re-attain All-American honors at the NCAA National Championship in Allendale, Michigan.
 
In the heptathlon, Ginnie Lee achieved a personal best score of 4538 points, giving the women's squad their fourth provisional qualifying mark of 2015. Lee hit personal best marks in four individual events, including the 100m hurdles (15.41), high jump (1.56m), 200m (25.93) and 800m (2:27.61). The freshman's sixth overall was first among Division II opponents. Teammate Jessica Clay fell just short of a provisional qualifier with a 12th place score of 4222 points. Clay made great individual strides over the course of the meet, achieving personal-best marks in six out of a possible seven individual events.
 
With the outstanding outing, Rich, Lee, and Clay earn some well-deserved rest for the next week. As for the rest of the Lions, they will head to Stephenville tomorrow on Saturday, April 11 to take part in the Tarleton State Tri-Meet.
