PORTALES, N.M. – The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams sit in second place in the team standings entering the final day of action at the Lone Star Conference Championships at Eastern New Mexico University's Greyhound Stadium.
The Lions won two gold medals, two silver medals, and three bronze medals, with two school records falling. Additionally, 23 Lions advanced to Saturday's running finals.
Both events wins came on the women's side, where
Minna Svaerd (Karlstad, Sweden) and
Brandi Stalder stood atop the podium. Svaerd won the pole vault at 3.75 meters (12-3 ½), winning the event by 10 centimeters. She was joined in the points by
Kati Culpepper (Amarillo – Randall) in third place. Stalder won the 10,000 meter run at 38:43.09.
Josh Boateng (St. George's, Grenada) put up yet another impressive performance, breaking the school shot put record which had stood since 1983. His toss of 18.70 meters (61-4 1.4) was good for the silver medal and the Grenadian national record.
Joseph Brown (Mansfield) finished in third place with a collegiate personal best of 17.10 meters (56-1 ¼).
The men's pole vault group had three competitors finish in the points, led by
Wesley Culbertson (Paris – North Lamar), who won the silver medal at 5.05 meters (16-6 ¾).

Other runners who earned the top seed in their event are Svaerd in the 400 meter hurdles and
