Lion Track & Field reveals 2022-23 schedule

COMMERCE – The Texas A&M University-Commerce track and field teams have announced the 2022-23 season schedule, which includes the Lions capping off their first Division I season by hosting the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.

The Lions compete in eight meets during the indoor portion of the season and six meets during the outdoor portion, traveling to six states during the season and hosting two meets during the regular season.

"We look forward to getting our season started," said coach George Pincock. "Our fall training was excellent and put us in a position to start the season. We have set some goals and the schedule we have provides every opportunity to achieve those goals."

The season begins on January 13-14 in Lubbock at the Corky Classic, hosted by Texas Tech. The Lions split the squad the following weekend with a few student-athletes headed to the US Air Force Academy for the Air Force Lindeman Invitational on January 19-21 and others head up to Norman, Oklahoma, on January 21, for the J.D. Martin Invitational hosted by Oklahoma.

The Lions will split the squads the following weekend as well with the New Mexico Team Open in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the Colorado Invitational in Boulder, Colorado. Both meets take place on January 27-28.

The split meets continue on February 10-11 with the Howie Ryan Invitational, hosted by Houston and the Tyson Invitational, hosted by Arkansas. The final meet during the regular season of the indoor portion of the schedule comes on February 17 at the Arkansas Qualifier.

The Lions head to Birmingham, Alabama, on February 26-27 for the Southland Conference Indoor Championships, it is the first time the Lions are competing in the Southland championships. The Lions last competed at the Birmingham Crossplex during the 2021 Division II Indoor National Championships.

The outdoor season begins on March 17-18 at the UTSA Invitational in San Antonio. The Lions then compete in the historic Texas Relays on March 29-April 1 in Austin, while a part of the squad heads to San Marcos for the Bobcat Invitational, hosted by Texas State on March 30-April 1.

Three of the final four meets of the season come at home, beginning with the East Texas Invitational on April 14-15. The Lions head to Waco on April 21-22 for the Michael Johnson Invitational, hosted by Baylor and close out the regular season on April 27 at home for the East Texas Quad.

A&M-Commerce serves as the hosts for the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships on May 4-6. The Lions are hosting the conference championships for the first time since 2017, when the Lion men won the Lone Star Conference championship, their last outdoor conference title, and the women took third.

During the four-year transition period to achieving full Division I member status, the Lions are ineligible to compete in NCAA National Championships.
