FRISCO – Texas A&M University-Commerce men's track and field sprinter
J.T. Smith has been awarded the Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week award on Wednesday afternoon.
Smith (Klein Oak) broke his school-record time in the 60 meter dash twice last weekend. He was the top finisher in the prelims at the Tyson Invitational and won the finals race with a time of 6.56 seconds, which is tops in the Southland and top five in the country.
He is competing in the USATF Indoor Championships this weekend in Albuquerque, New Mexico, this weekend, before competing in the Southland Conference Indoor Championships next weekend.
Smith is the third Lion to win a Southland weekly honor this season, joining teammates
Micky Ferdinand (Micoud, Saint Lucia) and Maia Maury (Noisy-Le-Grand, France).
