FRISCO – Texas A&M University-Commerce men's track and field student-athlete
J.T. Smith has been selected as the Southland Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon.
Smith (Klein Oak) sprinted to a time of 9.95 seconds in the 100 meter dash to win the race at the East Texas Invitational and set the new Memorial Stadium record. The 100 meter dash field last weekend included two sprinters that have competed at the Olympic level for their countries.
He also timed 20.28 seconds in the 200 meter dash, finishing second, and was part of the 4x100 meter relay winning team with a time of 39.72 seconds.
This is the third time that Smith has received a weekly honor this year, winning it twice during the indoor season. He joins teammate Tamara Susa (Novi Sad, Serbia) as Southland Athletes of the Week during the outdoor season.
The Lions are in Waco this weekend, taking part in the Michael Johnson Invitational at Baylor on Friday and Saturday.
