BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – On a day with six medals, the Texas A&M University-Commerce track & field teams closed out the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Monday at the Crossplex with the Lion men finishing fifth and women sixth.
The Lion men finished fifth in the meet with 63 points. UIW edged out McNeese by three points to repeat as the conference champion in the indoor meet. The Lion women took sixth with 42 points, improving from seventh last season. Northwestern State repeated as the conference champion, winning by 57 points on the women's side.

COMBINED EVENTS
Micky Ferdinand (Micoud, Saint Lucia) entered the day in sixth in the men's heptathlon and was fifth entering the final event after a time of 9.01 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, which was fifth, and cleared 14-5.25 (4.40m) in the pole vault for fourth. He did not race the 1,000 meter run, thus not recording a mark in the heptathlon.
Joshua Nate (Geneva School of Boerne) scored for the Lions in the event with an eighth-place finish. He was 10
th entering the day, moved to ninth after a time of 11.05 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles and 8-6.25 (2.60m) in the pole vault. He timed 2:48.26 in the 1,000 meter run, which was second overall for a total of 3,676 points.
UIW's Kyle Sieracki won the heptathlon with a score of 5,370 points. He was in third entering the pole vault, but cleared a 16-4.75 (5.00m) to move ahead. Northwestern State's Tim Pelkmans was the runner-up with 5,262 points.
MEN
Ibrahim Fuseini (Accra, Ghana) took silver in the 60 meter with a personal-best time of 6.69 seconds, while
Tyke Owens (Lebanon Trail) was fifth with a time of 6.85 seconds and
Oguz Uyar (Turkey) timed 6.88 seconds for sixth.
Fuseini also brought home a silver medal in the 200 meter dash. He timed a new personal-best of 20.97 seconds and
Enoch Fosuhene (Accra, Ghana) was seventh with a time of 21.70, which is also a new personal best.
Zayden Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Jordan Johnson (Guateng, South Africa) got the day started for the Lions on the track with the 60 meter hurdles. Davis won bronze with a time of 8.33 seconds, while
Jordan Johnson finished sixth with a time of 8.46 seconds.
In the one mile run,
Nicholas Deutsch (Frisco) was sixth with a time of 4:18.93. The Lions closed out the meet with the 4x400 meter relay team of Davis,
Eddie Barrientes (Chisholm Trail), Fosuhene, and Fuseini taking fifth with a time of 3:20.47.
Outside of the heptathlon, the Lion men were in action in just one field event. Tahje Parrish jumped a personal-best 48-4 (14.73m) for fifth in the triple jump.

WOMEN
Dejah Fuller (Waxahachie Life) jumped a season-best 40-0 (12.19m) in the triple jump for silver and
Magdaline Campo (Haiti) cleared 5-5.75 (1.67m) for silver in the high jump as well.
Leah Pettis (McKinney North) timed a personal-best 7.47 seconds in the 60 meter dash for silver and finished fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.16 seconds.
Anete Randma (Tallinn, Estonia) ran a time of 5:07.41 in the one mile run for fifth.
In the final race of the meet, the quartet of
Oriana Gee (Cy-Fair),
Cece Charles (Sauteurs, Grenada),
Analice Pursley (Georgetown Eastview), and Pettis timed 3:51.73 for seventh place.
