KERRVILLE – East Texas A&M University men's golfer
Matt Walters took eighth place to highlight the Lions' performance at the Southland Conference Championships to close out the season at the Comanche Trace Golf Course this week.
Walters (Ballitto, South Africa) shot a 70 on Wednesday to total a score of 214 after the three-round conference tournament. Augusta's Bo Blanchard won the individual medal by five strokes, totaling a score of 200.
Augusta also won the team title for the third year in a row, beating out UIW by nine strokes. The Lions rose to finish fifth, after shooting the second-lowest team score in the third round of the 11 teams. East Texas A&M totaled a team score of 877 (290-305-282).
"After our first round we put ourselves in a great position to compete for the trophy," said director of golf
Brian Dolehide. We fell short this year, but I am confident in our abilities moving forward!"

Elsewhere for the Lions,
Janis Erll (Lich, Germany) tied for 15
th with a score of 218 (72-77-69), while
Cooper Watt (Rockford, Ill.) tied for 31
st, shooting a 224 (71-78-75) this week,
Sam Benson (Gilmer – New Diana) ended in a tie for 33
rd place with a score of 225 (77-80-68), and
Nicke Kaajavirta (Kajaani, Finland) tied for 41
st with a score of 228 (74-79-75).
The SLC Championships this week ended the 2024-25 season for the Lions.
