BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Four medals and three school records, including a conference championship, highlighted the first day of the Southland Conference Indoor Championships on Wednesday for the East Texas A&M University track and field teams at the CrossPlex.

WOMEN
East Texas A&M went 1-2 in the pole vault as true freshman
Peyton Berry (Argyle) won the first pole vault title for the Lions in the Division I era, clearing 12-11.5 (3.95m).
Kira van den Ham (Bunnik, The Netherlands) tied for second with a mark of 12-3.25 (3.74m). She took the silver medal based on fewest missed attempts.
Entering the final set of attempts in the long jump,
Tina Samson (Benin, Nigeria) was in ninth, but she recorded a jump of 18-10.50 (5.75m) to leap into second place and secure her second silver medal of the day.
Romi Griese (Salzkotten, Germany) nearly missed the top eight in the weight throw, as her mark of 51-4.5 (15.66m) was 0.23 meters off eighth.
In the preliminary races on the track, six Lions punched their tickets to the finals on Wednesday.
Amara Idinna (Viry-Châtillon, France) had the second-best time in the 60 meter hurdles of 8.58 seconds.
Anete Randma (Tallinn, Estonia) broke the school record in the one mile run and advanced to the finals with a time of 4:49.72.
Niamh Le'Gall (Wallasey, England) timed 55.94 seconds for seventh in the 400 meter dash. She also timed 24.16 seconds for fourth in the 200 meter dash and is through to the finals.
Randma also broke a 12-year school record in the 800 meter run as she advanced to the finals with a second-best time of 2:12.27.
Mareva Heck (Marseille, France) also clinched a spot in the finals with a time of 2:14.42.
MEN
Jeremiah Garcia (Northwest Eaton) was the first Lion to score points on the men's side as he finished seventh with a time of 14:38.77 in the 5,000 meter run.
Parker Williams (Decatur, Texas) was the other Lion individual to score on Wednesday as he tied for fourth with a mark of 15-7 (4.75m) in the pole vault.
Over on the track in the preliminary races, there were also six Lions that advanced to Thursday's finals.
Cheyne West (Rochester, England) timed 8.08 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles, which was the second-best time in the field.
Enoch Fosuhene (Accra, Ghana) had the fastest-time in the 60 meter dash of 6.73 seconds, while
Kingsley Ayebide (Burutu, Nigeria) finished seventh and advanced to the finals with a time of 6.771 seconds.
In the one mile run,
Josh Shanahan (Noosaville, Australia) clocked in at 4:16.76 for ninth and is through to the finals.
Myles Redding (Waco – University) sprinted to a time of 47.08 in the 400 meter dash, which was the best time in the field.
Fosuhene advanced to the finals with a time of 21.19 seconds in the 200 meter dash, which was second among all runners on Wednesday.
MULTI-EVENTS
Samson was just eight points from winning the pentathlon as she scored 3,756 points for second, which is a new school record. She had the top mark of 12.57 meters in the shot put and second-best mark of 5.65 meters in the long jump.
Evelyn Cortes (Bogotá, Colombia) totaled 3,171 points for 10
th.
Three Lions competed in the first day of the heptathlon on Wednesday.
Jonas Gran (Riehen, Switzerland) is in seventh place with a score of 2,737 points, while
Joshua Kommer (Balingen, Germany) is in 11
th with 2,499 points and
Joshua Nate (Geneva School of Boerne) is 12
th with 2,412 points.

WOMEN'S TEAM SCORES
Six events were scored on Wednesday on the women's side. SFA holds a 28-point lead over the Lions atop the team standings. The Lions are four points ahead of A&M-Corpus Christi.
