Top Moment No. 6: Lion Athletics Upgrades Facilities

The 2013-14 A&M-Commerce athletic season was filled with a handful of incredible moments, achievements and career milestones. Throughout the summer Lion Athletics will take a look back at the top 15 moments of the year, voted on by athletic administrators and local media members.
The face of Lion Athletics has changed in the last 18 months with the addition and upgrading of facilities across the department.

The change generating the biggest buzz was a 50-yard wide lion head placed in the middle of new field turf on the floor of Memorial Stadium in July of 2013. The logo, the largest of its kind in the nation, earned praise and stirred interest around the country when the idea began to take shape and found its way to Twitter.

Still, in addition to the low-cost marketing tool the logo turned out to be, the upgrade to the turf also provided a fresh and updated surface for Lion Football for the 2013 season. And the team did their part as well, christening the field with the program's first winning season since 2001.

Lion Athletics also announced in the spring of 2014 the addition of softball to its roster of varsity sports, and broke ground on a new complex in the winter of spring of 2014. The field, which is being constructed across from campus at the Cain Sports Complex, is scheduled to be ready for play in the spring of 2015.

It will feature a new press box, covered seating for patrons, a hitting cage and field turf covering the entirety of the playing surface.

But the most recent upgrade to Lion Athletics facilities has come in The Field House where the 64-year old playing surface was recently upgraded to a fresh floor, installed by Z-Floors out of Denton. Click HERE to read the full release on the flooring installation.
