In his first season as the Lions running back coach Steven Ennis comes to Texas A&M-Commerce after spending last season at Lone Star Conference rival Midwestern State. As the running backs coach for the Mustangs, one of his top players was Ross Harrison. The second team All-Lone Star Conference South Division selection rushed for 1,088 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2005.

Before working at Midwestern State, Ennis was an assistant football coach at Dallas Skyline High School as their running backs coach and involved with the strength and conditioning of the team.

Prior to entering the coaching ranks, he was a running back at Southwest Missouri State (2001-2002) - now Missouri State - and Purdue University (1999-2000). The Flower Mound, Texas native attended Marcus High School, where they won three-straight conference titles with two undefeated seasons and was also a member of a track squad that won three more conference titles.
