Gary Berry was a key player in ETSU's Lone Star Conference championship teams in both 1957 and 1958. He led the LSC in scoring in 1957 with 66 points and scored ETSU's lone touchdown in the team's 10-9 win in the Tangerine Bowl. Berry was a two-time First Team All-LSC selection.
He rushed for 1,010 yards and scored 116 points in his two-year career, helping lead the Lions to a record of 19-2 in his two seasons. He was named team MVP in 1958. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in health and physical education in 1959.
Following his collegiate career, Berry was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the 23rd round of the 1958 NFL Draft.
