Thomas McCormack played tight end for three seasons for the Lions, being named an Honorable Mention All-American in 1951 and was a two-time First Team All-LSC selection. He ended his career with 68 catches for 1,148 yards, both of which were school records at the time. He caught 17 touchdown passes and also had an interception return for a touchdown in the 1950 season.
During his two seasons with the Lions under Lion Hall of Fame coach "Catfish" Smith, McCormack helped guide the Lions to a 20-2-0 record and LSC Championships in both 1951 and 1952. He also helped the team to win the 1952 Tangerine Bowl. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1953 and his master's degree in 1954.
After his playing career at ETSU, McCormack joined the United States Airforce, retiring in 1991 as a colonel.
