Morris Kyser was dubbed "the main man" for Lion Hall of Fame track and field coach Delmer Brown's teams that won three consecutive Lone Star Conference championships from 1964-66. Kyser was a member of the school's 1964 relay team that won the NAIA Championship, running the anchor leg of the race. He was named an NAIA All-American in both the mile relay and the 440-yard dash in 1964. Kyser twice was named the Lone Star Conference Outstanding Male Track Athlete, both in 1964 and 1966, and was a three-time First Team All-LSC honoree, twice winning the LSC quarter mile race.
Kyser set the school record in the 440-yard dash in 1964 with a time of 47.2 seconds. He helped set and reset the school's mile relay record as a freshman, then anchored the team that broke the mark again in 1965. At one time, he held the school record in the 440-yard dash, the mile relay and the 400-meter dash.
